Oh heavens Archie. Queens-too suburban? Yes, some of it resembles suburbia, but I grew up in Astoria/Long Island City. Suburbia? Hardly. Not as dense as Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn, perhaps.
I cherish the experience I had in growing up in an URBAN environment with a multitude of diversity in ethnicity and socio-economic backgrounds. There were people living well in single family houses and others in tight apartments, low and high rise, with kids even sleeping in the living room.
It was community, and felt like community. People knew each other and respected each other.
Glad you brought up the topic because I check this 'dead' board daily, still, and this really got my dander up to respond.
