Although I was born and raised in The Bronx, I lived in Queens for ten years (from 1955 to 1965). During that period of time, I always regarded myself as being a Flushing resident, and would RARELY say that I came from Queens. Perhaps a major reason for a lack of participation on the Queens Board is that many of its residents identify more with their specific SECTIONS of the borough, rather than with the borough AS A WHOLE. I have relatives who lived in Astoria for many years. They always said "We`re from Astoria", rather than "We`re from Queens". The same is true for my Forest Hills and Rockaway relatives who I never recall their saying "We`re from Queens".

As participants on the Bronx Board, I and many of my fellow ex-Bronxites identify with our home sections/neighborhoods of The Bronx on an equal basis with The Bronx as a whole! The enormous size of Queens (the city`s largest borough) may be another reason for a lack of participation on the Queens Board.
